Volunteers Make This Club! Print E-mail

The Ski Club is run on volunteer power.  Members volunteer to lead Jackrabbits groups, train high performance skiiers and biathletes, organize special events (including loppets, races, potluck dinners, etc), clear and groom trails, and maintain the facilities, machinery and equipment. 

Some jobs are formal (see job descriptions under Board Business section) while others are more informal.  Big or small, long- or short-term, find out how you can help.  Learn new skills like officiating races, grooming trails or coaching kids.  Bring your talents and energy to the Ski Club where you will have a great time getting to know fellow members.

And if you know of a Club member who has volunteered their time to improve the Club facilities, programs or trails, let us know by sending us an This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Every year, the Club holds a volunteer appreciation dinner in April to say thank you.   We also take time to recognize a few people who have demonstrated exceptional service, whether that be in highly visible jobs or behind the scenes:

  • WOODEN SKI AWARD: for long-service member(s) of the club with a tradition of involvement and dedication to the YKSC.
  • DOUBLE-POLER AWARD: for adult volunteer(s) who made a significant contribution to the YKSC in the past year.
  • STELLAR SNOWFLAKE AWARD: for junior volunteer(s) who made a significant contribution to the YKSC in the past year.
  • HERRINGBONE AWARD: for a business that contributed in-kind services to the YKSC in the past year.
 
Holiday Hours - Dec 20 to Jan 4 (10am-4pm)

Effective Dec 20 to Jan 4, the Ski Club chalet will be open daily from 10 am until 4 pm, except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.  The building will not be open if temperatures are -30C or below.  Evening access will resume when regular scheduling starts up again on Jan 5, 2009.

Celebrate the Solstice at the Club - Dec 21 at 11am
After a relaxing ski or snowshoe adventure on the trails, join us in the Clubhouse for some complimentary cocoa, seasonal music and ski socializing. Please gauge the weather for your own skiing enjoyment.  
 
Event will be cancelled if the temperature is -30C or below.
